With the first big winter storm having taken place throughout New England this past weekend, our new Wears Valley neighbors, Joe and Linda Kurcaba, are even happier than ever that they are now residents of the Tennessee Smokies. Joe and Linda moved into the Country Meadows subdivision this past summer.
The Kurcabas first contacted me via e-mail last fall; Linda was still working in a legal office, and Joe had recently retired as a machinist. They were life-long residents of Connecticut but said they were looking around the Southeast to see if they might find a place they would rather live. I suggested they include Sevier County in their search, and they took me up on the invitation to come see us in person.
As most of you know, we have a lot of folks (including myself) who have chosen to make Wears Valley their home. Most of these people, though, are from Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, Michigan, and some of the other contiguous states to Tennessee. I had never met anyone from Connecticut who was considering Tennessee as their home and was honestly surprised that the Kurcabas would consider us. (I will mention, though, that I have sold some homes to several former Californians who have “discovered” East Tennessee.)
Then, I asked myself, why wouldn’t folks from Connecticut consider us. That is the same thing Joe and Linda said. They love our beautiful scenery, the “countryness” of Wears Valley yet the conveniences of Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Gatlinburg, and Knoxville. They also like our lower taxes and more relaxed way of life.
Additionally, the Kurcabas are classic car enthusiasts, and they have many friends in the Valley who share their enthusiasm. Several live in the Deerfield Subdivision. The beautiful home the Kurcabas bought (built by James and Brandon Headrick) has just the right size LARGE garage for Joe to park his collection of cars.
This year I have also had the privilege of selling Wears Valley properties to couples from Louisiana, Chattanooga, Mississippi, Maryland, Chicago, Kentucky, Nashville, and Michigan. All of them are extremely happy to call Wears Valley home, and we are blessed to add these new neighbors to our wonderful community.
